Akita City, Akita Prefecture, Relocates Its Tokyo Office and Relocation Consultation Center to WeWork Tokyo Square Garden
WWJ Corp. (“WeWork Japan”*1), the operator of WeWork’s flexible office spaces in Japan,is pleased to announce that Akita City, Akita Prefecture, has relocated its Tokyo Office and Relocation Consultation Center to WeWork Tokyo Square Garden.
A commemorative event was held on Thursday, October 22, 2026, featuring Akita City Mayor Jun Numaya and WeWork Japan President and CEO Keitaro Kumagai. Under the theme “New Possibilities for Akita City Starting at WeWork,” the two participated in a panel discussion on the background to the relocation and Akita City’s priorities, including green transformation (GX) and AI-related industries, business attraction, and efforts to encourage relocation and expand the number of people with ongoing ties to the city.
A New Tokyo Base Connecting Business Attraction and Relocation Promotion
Akita City has opened its Tokyo Office and Relocation Consultation Center at WeWork Tokyo Square Garden to bring together and advance its business attraction and relocation consultation activities, which had previously operated separately.
By establishing a dedicated space for relocation consultations within WeWork, the city aims to improve the consultation environment while creating new opportunities to connect with businesses and talent in the Tokyo metropolitan area through events and other activities. By drawing on the WeWork community, where a diverse range of businesses and people come together, Akita City also aims to encourage connections and co-creation that were less likely to emerge at its previous Tokyo base. These connections are expected to support the development of new businesses and innovations in the GX and AI-related industries that the city is prioritizing.
In addition to its activities in Tokyo, Akita City plans to use WeWork’s nationwide network to expand connections with businesses outside the region, including startups, as well as with new technologies and ideas.
Connecting Akita with Businesses and Talent Through the WeWork Community
WeWork has grown as an open innovation platform where people, businesses, and communities connect to pursue new opportunities and create together. More than 25 local governments are currently WeWork members. Through connections with private-sector companies in the community and the planning and operation of events, WeWork supports their efforts to promote their cities and attract businesses and talent.
At Akita City’s new Tokyo base, WeWork will draw on its locations and communities across Japan to support the creation of new projects and encourage people to connect and move between regions. The base will serve as a hub connecting Akita City with businesses, linking Akita and Tokyo, and extending those connections throughout Japan and around the world.
